POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for operating semi truck/trailer to transport equipment and/or parts for Nichols Equipment’s core business and any outsource customer deemed by Nichols Equipment. Following safety procedures is critical to this position.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Adhere to laws on commercial vehicle operation per Federal, State and local authorities. Comply with truck driving rules and regulations by DOT such as size, weight, route destinations, parking and break periods
  2. Run truck/trailer unit to deliver/pickup equipment to/from customers and complete all paperwork
  3. Adhere to all safety requirements particular to heavy equipment including Federal Motor Safety Regulations. Load, handle and transport materials and heavy cargo safely. Run ratchet straps/chains/binders to secure load to trailer.
  4. Report to dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road or with the delivery/pick up
  5. Follow all traffic laws.
  6. Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs according to driver handbook
  7. Manage logs and records per DOT regulations
  8. Keep truck and associated equipment clean and in good working order
  9. Performs all pre-trip inspections, including equipment condition and oversize requirements. Inspect truck/trailer before and after trip and record any defects. Report any serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel
  10. Maintains in contact with dispatcher to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location
  11. Plan routes and meet delivery/pick up scheduled. Contact customer/destination as needed to confirm location/directions
  12. Able to complete assignments with little or no supervision.
  13. Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing a safe work environment and take an active role in assisting in building a safe work environment
  14. Ensures all company values are adhered to and promoted
  15. Comply with all company policies and procedures found in DOT driver and employee handbook
  16. Regular and prompt attendance
  17. Other duties as assigned

 

 

POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Walking: Must be able to walk up to 500 yards
  2. Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to carry a 50-pound toolbox up to several hundred feet.
  3. Pushing and Pulling:
  4. Must be able to exert 50 lbs. of force required for pulling and pushing of components
  5. Physically Fit - must be able to:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Class A drivers license, preferred 2 years of experience
  2. Ability to operate trucks, agricultural, construction, and consumer equipment
  3. Diligence in safety
  4. Must be flexible and highly organized with the ability to work independently
  5. Must be honest, respectful and trustworthy and demonstrate sound work ethics
  6. Excellent customer service skills
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills
  8. Exhibit a cheerful presence and teamwork skills
  9. Knowledge of computer systems/smartphones and internet-based applications (Mapping/GPS software)
  10. Ability to work occasional extended hours during the week and possible weekend coverage
  11. Accurate and detailed oriented
  12. Must be able to pass criminal background check and motor vehicle check prior to hire.
  13. Must pass pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle check and employment verification
