JOB SUMMARY :

Assists in maintaining a food processing plant production run that meets food handling regulations and customer specifications.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interprets test results, compares them to established specifications and control limits, and releases raw materials and finished products

• Reviews and updates SOPs as needed

• Schedule and lead 3rd party and regulatory audits

• Manage service vendors for the department

• Manage companywide corrective action program

• Fulfill PCQI requirements per FDA (including review of records for compliance)

• Lead food safety team meetings

• Maintain food safety system including flow diagrams and hazard analysis

• Maintain supplier information records

• Oversee internal audit program

• Provide support to other departments for audits and certifications

• Collaborates inventory of laboratory supplies and places reorders

• Calibrates, validates, or maintains laboratory test equipment

• Compiles laboratory test data

• Coordinate research and development projects

• Identifies quality problems and recommends solutions

• Investigates and reports questionable test results

• Trains and leads the day-to-day activities of Quality Control Technicians

• Works closely with the Field Representative

• Administersthe laboratory information management system

• Prepares samples and documents for sample shipments

• Communicates test results to customer representatives

• Administers companywide Equipment Calibration and Sanitation Inspection Programs

• Manage customer complaint response

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

• Knowledge of manufacturing and quality control practices and procedures.

• Familiar with ISO Standards 90001/14001/22000

• Ability to use and maintain mechanical and laboratory testing equipment

• Organizational skills and attention to detail needed

• Ability to use good judgement and communicate effectively at all levels

• Ability to analyze and solve problems.

• Working knowledge of MS programs.

• Ability to speak, read, and write English at the level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities

EDUCATION B.S. in Science Filed required.

TRAINING

• Quality management system training

• Food safety specific training

• GMP training

• HACCP training

• PCQI certified

• ISO training

EXPERIENCE 2-4 years of experience in food processing quality control; or any equivalent combination of educationand experience, required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Position does not have supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Continuously uses decision making, interpersonal, customer service, discretion, problem analysis, training, and basic math skills. Work includes standing frequently, bending, handling, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists and feet. Also includes continuous walking, talking, and hearing. May be required to push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work performed in a food processing plant setting. Position may require extended hours, with exposure to hazardous chemicals, production machinery, high noise level, and constant standing on concrete surfaces. Position is also on an on-call status.
