Overview

The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the service, maintenance and repairs to the Ammonia Refrigeration System, Utilities which includes Air, Water and Electrical as well as Waste Treatment. Follow all Food Safety, Product and equipment requirements in a Food Processing Facility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform daily rounds and inspections of Refrigeration and Utility equipment ensuring proper operation;
  • Complete Work Orders and PM’s as tasked in a timely manner;
  • Troubleshoot / repair electrical and mechanical issues in Ammonia Refrigeration and Utilities;
  • Attend and Participate in all regulatory programs such as PSM, RMP and Safety;
  • Follow all GMP’s and Plant policies;
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the following:
    • Ammonia refrigeration equipment
    • Preventative and predictive maintenance across the system
    • Compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, etc.
    • Control of chemicals and water treatment systems
    • Drain oil
    • Ammonia detection system
    • Compressed air systems
    • Steam boilers
    • Plumbing, water pumps, and water softeners.
  • Enter Work Orders and PM’s into maintenance management program;
  • Minimal downtime concerning Refrigeration, Utilities and Waste Treatment;
  • Customer Service / report, respond and assist all department’s needs.
  • Follow and participate in all energy conservation efforts dealing with Refrigeration, Electricity, Water and Air;
  • Always have a sense of urgency and pride in work and be extremely safety conscious;
  • Performs other required tasks as assigned.

 

 Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and completion of a formal trades training program, or an equivalent number of years of education and maintenance experience;
  • Two years of industrial maintenance experience including comprehensive knowledge in three or more of the following areas:
    • RETA Certification
    • Ammonia Refrigeration
    • Engine & Boiler systems
    • Electricity & motor controls
    • Controls & instrumentation
    • PLC/software & hardware
    • Pneumatics & Hydraulics
    • Mechanical systems
    • Predictive/Predictive maintenance
    • Maintenance Planning
    • Site utilities
    • System analysis & troubleshooting
    • Pipefitting & welding
    • Machining
    • Metal fabrication
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently;
  • Willing to work all shifts (days/evenings/overnights), extended hours and weekends;
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in ammonia, industrial refrigeration, and steam boilers;
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in manufacturing maintenance working on high speed equipment;
  • Hands on experience in industrial refrigeration, plumbing, water systems, water softeners, and water pumps;
  • Knowledge and working experience in HVAC and electrical are a must;
  • Municipal, state, military, or trade license or certificate relating to the maintenance area is desirable;
  • Food and bakery experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout and safety requirements;
  • Knowledge of safety criteria for ammonia systems;
  • Understand, follow, and implement PSM;
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds;
  • Must understand and be able to communicate in English, including but not limited to reading and interpreting order forms and selection labels.
