Job Summary:
Manage the refrigeration and boiler systems, develop solutions for energy conservation and safety issues, manage and implement projects involving refrigeration. Manage department budgets, review and make exception notes to Sarbanes Oxley Standards. PSM Implementation, refer to PSM Responsivity Matrix for assigned duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Establish, document and support preventative maintenance program for all refrigeration and boiler equipment
Compliance to air emissions from boilers
Compliance to PSM for installation and maintenance of refrigeration systems
Supervise operation of all refrigeration equipment and boilers
Strive to improve system operation efficiency
Provide training opportunities to employees
Make sure company rules and policies are followed and enforced
Must be able to operate a two-stage ammonia system
Must be able to safely operate, maintain and evaluate performance checks of equipment such as Evaporative Condensers, Cooling Towers and high horsepower engine room equipment
Ensure that chemical treatment is applied correctly to cooling towers and boiler room equipment
Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance as necessary on all refrigeration systems. This includes rebuilding of compressors, valves, pumps and various other mechanical devices.
Monitor and maintain steam generating equipment
Tests and documents chemical usage in condensing equipment
Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines
Manage departmental related capital projects using in house resources and contractors
Follow company policies
Follow safety procedures

Supervisory Duties:
As noted in duties and responsibilities. Direct reports include two refrigeration supervisors
Qualifications:
BS in Engineering preferred
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in refrigeration and boiler management
Communication skills (verbal and written). Must be able to communicate with all levels of management
Demonstrates safe handling and control of hazardous materials used in refrigeration
Insures safe job performance from all employees
Must follow all OSHA regulations standards ex: facial hair modification
Must have a solid working knowledge of PSM
Must be able to manage teams in an emergency as a key member of the Incident Command System (ICS) team
Refrigeration Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA), Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator, (CIRO) and HAZMAT certified
Must be able to use hand tools normally expected of refrigeration technicians
Requires in-depth knowledge and ability to service and repair both ammonia and Freon systems
Able to supervise employees and administer disciplinary notice when necessary
Able to lead others effectively; able to train and teach employees
Has solid interpersonal skills
Work Environment:
Industrial plant environment with related noise and temperatures
Physical Requirements:
Must pass the CAL/OSHA Respirator physical by a designated physicians or Health/Care Providers
Must be able to climb stairs
Must be able to lift 30 pounds
Must be able to work in a 0°F environment for a sustained period of time (with proper PPE)
Requires climbing, standing, stooping, twisting, lifting, and other physical movements to perform job
