Purpose of the position

Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring regulatory, customer, and company requirements are met at the manufacturing facility.

Essential responsibilities & duties

▌Responsibility 1 – Partner with plant leadership team to ensure buy-in and commitment to quality assurance and food safety programs.

▌Responsibility 2 – Partner with plant leadership teams to upgrade sanitation practices and good manufacturing practices.

▌Responsibility 3 – Establish a pattern of internal audits and develop corrective action plans and monitor results of plans as necessary.  Review programs at least annually and identify gaps in compliance to GFSI/BRC/AIB and Customer standards.

▌Responsibility 4 – Prepare facility for food safety audits by 3rd Party and Regulatory bodies.

▌Responsibility 5 – Integrate HACCP and FSMA principles into production processes.

▌Responsibility 6 – Conduct root cause and preventive action analysis and reports for customer complaints and production failures.

▌Responsibility 7 – Establish and maintain the Quality budget for the facility.

▌Responsibility 8 – Ensure the performance of Quality Assurance procedures, including microbiological, chemical, organoleptic, facility inspections; quality related inventories management and audit analysis are proficient, efficient, accurate, and timely.

▌Responsibility 9 – Lead the QA (7+ QA Techs) and Sanitation (5+ Sanitation Techs, 1+ HK Associate) team by coaching, goal setting, performance appraisals, and professional development. 

▌Responsibility 10 – Responsible for USDA and FDA inspections, communication, and partnerships.

▌Responsibility 11 – Generate necessary reports in order to track MBO’s, KPI’s and other relevant information required by DFS.

▌Responsibility 12 –Day to day activities of the laboratory and the staff, responsible for verifying, reviewing, and trending QA documentation including SSOP, SOP, HACCP, internal audit, chemical, and microbiological documentation, and responsible for maintaining laboratory supply inventory and ordering laboratory supplies as needed.

▌Responsibility 13 - Carry out other duties as needed and assigned by your immediate supervisor.

Academic qualifications

Essential

10+ years’ experience in the food industry, with minimum of 5 years quality management

Understand the food safety regulations established by different governmental agencies. Experience managing regulatory agency interactions and updates.

Supply Quality Program exposure and/or experience.

Food manufacturing experience required.

Internal Audit Certification, with 1 – 3 years Auditing experience

Proven track record of effectively hiring, leading and managing a team.

Ability to work as a leader and in collaboration with other cross functional teams and individuals. 

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

Experience with Document Management

1 – 2 years of Supply Quality Management experience

Green Belt, Black Belt, Master Black Belt or Brown Belt identification as a Green Belt who has passed the Black Belt exam with forthcoming Six Sigma project.

Experienced in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.

Physical requirements

Must be able to work in a Food Manufacturing Facility Environment, including handling and coming into to contact with allergens, pungent odors and occasionally extreme temperatures (example blast freezer -30ºF, cook room over 100ºF).

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work environment

Food manufacturing facility and office environment.
