Summary/Objective:                                                

The Plant Refrigeration Technician is an important team member for assuring safe operational equipment for the facility.

Responsibilities:

Troubleshoots and maintains ammonia cooling systems.

Maintains ammonia cooling systems by creating and completing checklists, ensuring the cleanliness and safety compliance of the machines, performing proactive maintenance, working closely with mechanics, and keeping Mangers informed of system issues. Proactively seeks methods of improving systems by communicating with other system technicians within and outside the company. Qualification Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Work Attire:   

Plant technicians must wear boots and company supplied reflective overalls or reflective vest, and all company supplied PPE if needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are included.   

•Performs preventive maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, ammonia refrigeration, condenser systems, compressed air systems.

• Ensures compliance with PSM/RMP requirements as well as inspecting equipment for operational and mechanical integrity issues and taking corrective action and notifying supervision and management as required. This position will be required to become a member of the plant emergency response team.

• Observes and tests system operation using gauges and instruments.

• Prepares daily records and reports describing procedures, actions taken and recommended solutions.

• Follows all GMPs. Follows best practices from IIAR.

• Works safely. Make sure all chemicals used are approved and controlled through SDSs.

• Reviews work orders and perform routine system checks daily.

• Performs required inspections and audits independently and with contractor and PSM compliance auditors.

• Writes work orders as needed.

• Works safely and collaboratively with contractors and vendors during repair, inspection, construction, installation of equipment.

• Provides training for other maintenance techs.

• Prepares and submit requests for supplies and equipment.

• Responds to emergency service requests.

• Follows good housekeeping practices.

• Follows safety rules/procedures; avoids known hazards in the work environment.

• Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education And/or Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Refrigeration technician, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining ammonia systems. Basic knowledge of PLCs and ability to troubleshoot electrical components; experience with 480v electrical power.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must be able to work from sketches, blueprints, plans and specs; ability to read schematics.

• RETA CARO/CIRO certification, desired, but required to complete one year after employment.

• Requires knowledge of the typical refrigeration cycle and knowledge of ammonia control values and related piping as needed for safe service and repair.

• Strong aptitude for solving mechanical problems

• Solid understanding of control circuits

• Must be able to read, write and speak English
