Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician III/PLC Specialist is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair and programming of all the PLC systems used to operate the plant equipment and systems. In addition, this position will participate in maintaining large production machinery, refrigeration systems and other production plant-based equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Technician III is a Lead in the department and is responsible for:

  • Assist managers with training other maintenance personnel.
  • Ensures that all technicians get their breaks and lunches.
  • Covers for the Manager when not present.
  • Other Lead tasks as assigned.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducts testing and validation for PLC’s throughout the plant as required or recommended.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, refrigeration systems, hydraulic systems and forklifts/prime movers etc.
  • Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
  • Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
  • Prepares reports documenting work performed.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
  • Collaborates with product manager or maintenance manager regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.
  • Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to diagnose PLC problems and repair the PLC.
  • Ability to program PLC devises.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to design and build basic equipment and tools using fabrication equipment and welding.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Operational understanding of ammonia-based refrigeration systems (preferred).
  • Can train others.

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in computers or electronics preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working on PLC operated equipment, including programming.
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in refrigerated rooms (35 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit)
