Job Description

SUMMARY: Supervises the operation, repair, overhaul and general maintenance of all refrigeration equipment and facilities, boilers, air compressors, fry oil heating equipment, plant water supply system, cold storage equipment and facilities, plant air conditioning and ventilating system, process water treatment equipment and system, and the raw product cooling system in order to assure the uninterrupted processing and efficient storage of quality potato products within budgeted costs.  Manage the Process Safety Management (PSM) Program for the facility, which includes maintaining all documentation, providing periodic training, and continuously working to improve the process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.

Assures the efficient, day-to-day operation of all designated equipment by supervising all maintenance and repair activities.  Requires the ability to work flexible days and hours as needed.

Assures the continuing operation of all designated departmental equipment by the development and management of an effective preventative maintenance program.

Assures a capable work force by developing and supervising an efficient and effective employee training program.

Assures an adequate inventory of equipment parts by monitoring and ordering the required materials.

Contributes to the modernization of departmental equipment and layout by recommending equipment design and layout, by assisting the Engineering Manager in planning and developing equipment changes, and by the supervision of the installation of new equipment.

Assist with capital projects for the steam, air, and refrigeration systems for the plant to ensure installation is done at the highest level of quality and within budget.

Participate in continuous improvement process as a member of the leadership team.  This includes taking an active role in Continuous Improvement initiatives, safety programs, employee training, root cause failure analysis, PM Optimization and upgrading personal skill level.

Assures a favorable labor climate by consistent and fair supervision and application of the labor agreement.

Assures a safe work place for all employees by developing and supervising the safe work habits of subordinates, by maintaining equipment for safe operation, and by observing and following the OSHA and WISHA safety regulations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

MAINTENANCE TEAM LEADER - UTILITIES, CONTINUED.

Assures a sanitary work place by developing and supervising the sanitary work habits of subordinates.

Assures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as Lamb Weston policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages one (1) subordinate who leads a total of five (5) Mechanics, five (5) Refrigeration Operators.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and guidelines.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) to ten (10) years experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and refrigeration equipment.  Three (3) to five (5) years supervisory experience.  Two (2) to three (3) years college or technical level education.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Mechanical ability and knowledge. Ability to think and make decisions quickly and effectively.  Desire to constantly improve quality or products and verbal communication skills.  Must be willing to accept change.  Knowledge of products' specifications, first aid and safety, and people handling skills.
