Job Title:                     Maintenance Superintendent

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for overall leadership and direction of all corrective, preventative and predictive mechanical, instrumentation and control maintenance for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Eddy Packing and leads a team of 3 Maintenance Supervisors in the installation, maintenance and repair of facility tools, machines and equipment while managing the established annual budget for the department.

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for managing the maintenance department in the absence of the maintenance manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for daily leadership and organization to the maintenance team by managing the preventative/predictive/corrective maintenance systems to optimize equipment reliability, prioritizing maintenance requests, overseeing facility inventory management and ensuring cost effective maintenance services within budgetary constraints. Responsible for having a firm knowledge of the plant’s layout, systems, and equipment.  Must be able to anticipate plant priorities as the situation arises. 

  • Establish strategic and tactical priorities by partnering with operations, financial, production, safety, engineering and other departments.
  • Coach, train, counsel and manage performance of direct reports.  Evaluate staff and replace/upgrade  
  • Lead the departmental redesign and focus to that of predictive/preventive maintenance from current approach of reactionary mode.  
  • Plan, budget, and oversee execution of facility repairs, modifications, installations and capital improvements within budget
  • Assure that all maintenance employees are knowledgeable of governmental and plant policies, procedures, including USDA, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, and EPA, and that adherence is enforced.
  • Actively manage cost control processes to drive down costs and improve operational and quality control efficiencies throughout the plant.
  • Responsible for creation of preventive maintenance objectives and their execution.

Minimum Education and experience required:

  • 8-10 years of maintenance/engineering supervisory experience in a USDA manufacturing environment in food processing industry.
  • 5 years of managerial experience leading a maintenance department in a food processing plant/environment.
  •  Must have experience with PSM.
  • Requires good written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, and must be results oriented.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.  

 Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

Must have knowledge of financial indicators / analysis and experienced in capital planning, fixed asset management and budget development / management. Basic personnel computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and Power Point. Familiarity with Auto Cad.

Technical Skills:   Expertise in leading and managing others in the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment.  Ability to manage conflicting priorities and set performance expectations.  Demonstrated ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Strong inter-personal skills, including verbal and written communication skills along with a strong sense of urgency.  Exhibits strong judgment and decision-making skills.

Prior experience with USDA regulations, anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems, OSHA, HACCP, and GMP. 

Software skills:  Prior experience using computerized maintenance software, Microsoft office applications.
