Job Summary:

The Human Resource/Safety Manager will conduct and lead the functions of the Human Resources/Safety (HRS) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, overseeing employee orientation and training, leave, safety programs, workers compensation and enforcing company policies and practices.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides/coordinates constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

 

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Human Resources

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organizations human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to plant management staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages/conducts the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Safety

  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover required and elective safety training.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Management representative to Employee Safety Committee.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Maintains OSHA logs
  • Ensures all accident reports are sent to the state and OSHA as required.
  • Manages the workers compensation program
  • Manages the back-to-work program

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five years of human resource management and safety experience and preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Able to work within the manufacturing plant as needed.
