As an Ammonia Refrigeration Technician, you will perform preventative and predictive maintenance on various types of ammonia refrigeration equipment. Additionally, you will play a decisive role ensuring adherence to the design specifications of the refrigeration systems through periodic testing and inspections.

Responsibilities of the Ammonia Refrigeration Technician:

  • Operate, maintain and adjust the refrigeration system to safely support production requirements.
  • Inspect, calibrate and maintain all refrigeration system safeguards per manufacturer specifications
  • Complete and evaluate daily logs pertaining to the temperature, pressure and general operation of the refrigeration system
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and repairs on machinery within the ammonia refrigeration system
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues on refrigeration equipment
  • Maintain water treatment system and chemical controls for the evaporative condenser per manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in all areas of refrigeration equipment
  • Monitor contractors working on or near refrigeration systems
  • Utilize onsite motorized lift and rental equipment as needed

Preferred Qualifications of the Ammonia Refrigeration Technician:

  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience/training
  • Successful completion of Refrigeration Operator 1 course (CARO) or equivalent
  • Previous refrigeration work with anhydrous ammonia (min of 2 years)
  • Knowledge and skills in the Safe operation, troubleshooting and proper maintenance of a two stage re-circulated and or critical charged refrigeration systems.
  • Must have knowledge and skills to work with:
  • Ammonia screw compressors.
  • Evaporators, Air Handling Units, used in process areas.
  • Water towers or Condensers.
  • Chillers, Plate type.
  • Holding/Storage freezers and tempering coolers.
  • Blast Room and other ammonia type refrigeration equipment.
  • Other equipment knowledge and or skills should include:
  • (PSM) (RMP) environmental programs.
  • Steam boilers, DA tanks, return condensate piping and operation, air compressors, centrifugal pumps, 3phase 480 volt electrical power, VFD’s, starters, overloads and such.
  • various types of refrigeration related process equipment.
  • Applicants must be able to work flexible hrs.

Full Job Description

  • 2+ years industrial ammonia refrigeration experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience in refrigeration service or electrical trade
  • Physically able to climb ladders, work at high elevations and lift objects up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to pass physical examination and Respirator Fit Testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, detail oriented and highly motivated
  • basic computer skills (electronic documentation)
  • Working Knowledge of screw compressors, electrical troubleshooting of common types of industrial refrigeration systems and control systems
  • Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures and governing requirements.
  • Ability to work unsupervised or with limited instruction.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, possibly work extended shifts.
  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, perform safety meetings and rectify unsafe job conditions immediately.
  • Maintain an organized jobsite.
  • Candidate should have an excellent attention to detail with emphasis placed on safety.
